Visa FAQ

Which documents do I need to enter Germany?

All visitors require a passport that is valid for at least 6 months.

Visitors from EU-countries do not require a visa. Visitors from non-EU-contries might not need a short-stay visa (Schengen-Visum) if the European Community has abolished the visa requirement for their home country. You can find a detailed table here.

How can I apply for a visa? When should I apply?

You can apply for a short-stay visa at missions of the German Federal Foreign Office. It is advised to consult the website of the respective mission to find out about the procedure and required documents. A list of all missions can be found here.

The application process for a short-stay visa takes at least two to ten working days at most missions, but might be longer during travel season or if documents are missing. For this reason, visa applications should be submitted in good time before the conference.

Where can I find further information about the visa process?

For further information on the process, additional fees and other information regarding visa applications, visit the website of the German Federal Foreign Office.

We generally advise all foreign participants to check with their home country’s German embassy whether a visa is needed and if so, to make their application as soon as possible. The conference committee board or any members involved in ECML PKDD 2019 take no responsibility for your visa application. All costs for any visa application are the responsibility of the passport holder.
